Before Nicole transitioned into Psychometrics, she worked with intellectually gifted students. She taught gifted education for the Drew School District, Hollandale School District, and Pascagoula School District. She has worked with gifted students ranging from second to eighth grade. Nicole also served as the Gifted Program Coordinator for Cleveland School District.
Nicole attended the University of Mississippi where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. She also attended Delta State University where she received an Educational Specialist degree in Administration and Supervision, and William Carey University where she received her School Psychometry Certification. Nicole has certifications in Gifted, Psychometry, English, Elementary Education, and Educational Leadership.
In January 2018, Nicole fasted and prayed for 21 days about her purpose, and God placed the dream to become a farmer within her heart. Nicole found a 10-acre plot of land for sale and reached out to Dr. Panicker at Alcorn State University to help her establish a blueberry farm and muscadine vineyard. Dr. Panicker told her about Agroforestry and all of its benefits and encouraged her to start an Agroforestry Center in Mississippi. Unfortunately, the plot of land was sold. In January 2023, during her new year fast, God reminded her of the dream he placed in her heart in 2018. Nicole joined the New Beginning Farmers, Ranchers, and Veterans Program at Alcorn State University and started her land search again. Nicole found the perfect 8-acre plot in Drew, Mississippi. Drew, Mississippi was the perfect place because both Nicole and her mother, Dorothy Jackson, previously taught at A.W. James Elementary School in Drew. Nicole purchased the land and established Brighter Future Farms, LLC. Nicole contacted Farm Service Agency (FSA), Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), and reached out to Dr. Panicker again and told him she was ready to start the Agroforestry Center. Dr. Panicker sent her a list of everything she needed, and Nicole began looking for funding.
In October of 2023, Brighter Future Farms, LLC wrote a grant to begin the Agroforestry Center. In June of 2024, Brighter Future Farms, LLC was selected to receive a Conservation Innovation Grants On-Farm Trial award from USDA’s NRCS to establish an Organic Horticulture-Based Agroforestry Center.
Nicole’s mother, Dorothy Jackson, played an integral part in her desire to farm and to help the community. Mrs. Jackson began a community garden in Ruleville, Mississippi under the direction of the non-profit organization, Ruleville Community Development Corporation (now Dorothy’s Legacy, Inc.). Nicole spent time in this garden helping her mother plant and harvest vegetables for the community, and today, Nicole seeks to carry out her mother’s legacy. Drew, Mississippi is only a few miles from Ruleville, Mississippi, which is where Nicole was raised. Drew is a food desert and does not have a grocery store where the locals can purchase fresh fruits and vegetables. This farm will be a vital part of the community for all to learn about healthy eating and to enjoy naturally grown fresh fruits and vegetables.
